Five safe, eight to go

Earlier this morning five members of the British Embassy staff were released from the north of Ethiopia. Whilst it is still a mystery about who captured these innocent workers, eight other Ethiopians are still being held captive.

They were kidnapped on the same day as the five Europeans but somehow not too many people are aware of their loss of freedom. Furthermore two off road cars were found riddled with bullets laden with clothes and mobile possessions. It was obvious someone had violently attacked the car.

On the 1st March these five tourists were sight seeing when this dismal event took place. For thirteen days they were hidden in the north of Ethiopia. Surprisingly and according to witnesses, fifty men burst into a village, some of whom were armed, and marched a group to Eritrea’s border.

Some think the cause was revenge against the British from the previous thirty year war. Although Meles Zenawi.the Ethiopian Prime Minister, said his officials had some idea of the whereabouts of the hostages but took no action. Whilst Meles Zenawi also stated that the capture was simply a mistake.  It was witnessed that an explosion was set in one the cars but no one was hurt.

The British Embassy claimed they worked tirelessly, meanwhile the kidnapped victims found they were given exceptionally good assistance by their captors. Still no news of the eight missing Ethiopian hostages has been heard. When pedestrians saw the witnesses driving north they contacted the British officials and eventually these five lucky people were found completely unharmed.
