The ban will be active at all food restaurants and pubs, and there will be a
costly fine for anyone or any establishment found breaking the new ban.
Health secretary Patricia Hewitt said, “This legislation is a huge step
forward for the British community.”
Some people disagree with the new ban and claim that the government is not
thinking about its options clearly and that the ban is an unnecessary step.
Even with all the negative protests against the ban, the government
estimatimates that 600,000 people will stop smoking once the ban has come
into force.
Mrs Hewitt said “Throughout the year second hand smoke has been the cause
of 50% of heart disease in Britain. If people listen to the ban and stop
smoking the amount of second hand smoke will decries by 70% meaning that the
amount of smoke related heart disuse will drop from 50% to 20%.”
